Students' Division

Payne Academy's

Students in the Student Division (SD) range from those experiencing ballet as a form of recreation and appreciation to those desiring to pursue a career in dance.  Students ages eight through adult will enjoy the study of Classical Ballet, as well as the opportunity to explore other dance

disciplines through our enrichment division.

Each student progresses at their own rate.  Therefore, level advancement is based on an individual basis.  It is not uncommon for a student to spend more than one year in a particular level.

Level Descriptions

  • Ballet I (Blue or Black Leotard) is designed for the beginning Ballet Student.  Body placement and basic technique is the focus.

  • Ballet II (Blue or Black Leotard) continues the training which began in Ballet I by increasing their physical vocabulary.

  • Ballet III (Hunter Green or Black Leotard) is an intermediate level which may include introductory Pointe work.  Those students invited to attend pointe classes must attend 3 ballet classes per week.

  • Ballet IV (Hunter Green or Black Leotard) is for the pre-advanced student.  This level does include Pointe work.

  • Ballet V (Burgundy Leotard) is designed for our advanced students. Pointe and Technique classes make up the core of their daily training.

  • Ballet VI (Burgundy Leotard) is designed for pre-professional student. At this level the concentration is on technical refinement and artistry.  A rigorous training schedule is a necessity.
